Another Day of Battle! Fresh of the back of the Doubles even frying my brain the singles started back at Darksphere. Same drill as before but it felt a lot more people and I'm not sure why but a faint air of hushed competitiveness. 4 games, two of 1500 at 40mins and 2 of 2000 at 50mins. Lists More units that the doubles for me so here's a more detailed look at them.   Game 1 Ratkin 1500, Dominate With their high US against my elitish build with barely any ranged attacks ratkin or goblins were probably the list I feared most. On the plus side the last minute switch out of my thuul to have pathfinder rather than the Hammer of Measured Force was lucky. Marcin had: Two shooty death engines Horde of tunnel runners with pathfinder A Slaves Regiment Two Shock Troop hordes, one +1 To hit, 1 +1 Crushing Strength A Swarm Crier with Bane Chant Two Weapons Teams As the plan was to get into the middle that's what we both deployed to do! ...

Jack of Herts III

Pre-(R)amble Ashamedly the first post in a while and it's a Tournament report rather than a hobby update. I've been painting and hobbying a fair amount but just not got round to write them all down. So it's back with Paul and Mat running a casual doubles tournament but this time at the Darksphere Shop in West London(ish) at Mantic Franticon 2019.  An impressive 18 teams were taking part from several countries including a large Spanish Armada. Some usual suspects were present but this one was different as I was bringing my brother with me for his foray into toy soldiers since we were kids. We'd had a quick 1000pt battle where I worked him through the mechanics and I bought him a rule book. I gave him some pointers and left him write a list cobbled together out of the 20+year old monopose plastic elves and some recent things like a Forest Dragon I had been painting.  The lists! I decided to try and take the least amount of stuff I could and the stuff I felt...

Jack of Herts 2

Fresh back from the Jack of Herts 2 here’s my account of events... The usual chaos ensued with snow hitting the South East of England on the couple of days before JoH2 leading to Mat and Paul fearful if anyone would actually make the event. In the end it was smooth sailing for all with only a little bit of crunchy snow underfoot on the untreated road approaching the venue. As usual when we got in and warmed up there was the usual amazing array of scenery on 7 6x4 tables but this was added to by some amazing 3x3 vanguard tables. The effort that had been gone to was amazing. Pleasantries were exchanged and free cups of tea sourced. How very British. Game 1 Invade The pairings were announced and although there had been the chance to issue challenges i don’t think anyone took them up so the random draw lead me to be facing Rusty Shackleford’s dwarven horde. It was big blocks of infantry with some scouting rangers, two bombards and a Craggoth. First off, as always the painti...

Elvish nonsense

Having got my 1000pts of Trident Realms in the bag and painted I have volunteered to paint my brother's old High Elf army for use in the Franticon event next march. He'll be teaming up with me for doubles and going it alone on the Sunday. I've always been suspicious of elves but as it's a pretty elite army it should paint up pretty quick and I'm keen to build a list which showcases all the KoW mechanics for my brother to learn. I'm also keen not to stack it hordes of bane chanted archers and Drakon Riders. I'll try and base the army around chariots, cavalry and a dragon to give the feel of a sea borne raiding party all highly mobile. I need to make sure that it's not over complicated so may steer away from Vanugaurding units. All of this is a very cunning plan as it will give me further incentive to paint and get another army sorted. As it's such a small force I'll be trying to up the paint and modeling effort and try out different colour schem...
