Boxes. Lots of boxes

Image
I've been struck down with the flu and it's put a massive damper on hobby stuff. I do pretty much have all the figs I needed and between the Mega Force regular Army, 2 boxes of wyrm riders, a box of elementals and a box of thull i can now muster the following Mantic Models: 6 Wyrm Riders 20 Thull 100 Naiads 1 Thull Mythican 1 Leviathan's Bane 20 Riverguard 6 Water Elementals 1 Centrurian/Envoy 3 Gigas 1 Riverguard Capt There are also a load of cool bits on the Naiad sprues like an otter and frog. It's great that they are paying that attention to detail and there's potential to use them as a Tidal Swarm as I have 20 of each now.  In addition I've got a reaper minis model for an extra mythican and some board game minis from mythic battles for some knuckers. All of this gives me plenty to play with for a 2k force and has a good enough backbone to be competitive. I'm lacking some bigger monsters hence the knuckers but I'll pl

Fluffy Stuff

Fluff, theme and overall appearance are things that I think make painting up toy soldiers different from a game of chess. Don't get me wrong, there are board games that I love and I enjoy painting the playing pieces, but it's nothing on creating your own backstory and schemes completely uninhibited by needing to confirm with standards requiring a different player's pieces to be identified. The detail and materials of them aren't as nice as the Mantic ones I have but they serve a purpose. These are from the board game Scythe that I painted up for the Ludoquist , Croydon's new board game cafe. Fluff My first port of call for fluff has been the Uncharted Empires  source book. Sadly it's a bit thin only stating that there are "three major kingdoms, each ruled by a Neritican or High King". There's also a small bit about orcs not liking them. Next up is the Edge of the Abyss , 2017 Campaign book. This is a story of the living legend and doesn't r

Let's get started

Seeing as the last Blog I tried to keep was useless I'm hoping that as this one has a purpose I'll keep it going. I'll be tying in with the Blings of War  website tracking the progress of other gamers starting up Mantic only armies. I loved the old Games Workshop "Tale of Four Gamers" in the 90s so it feels good to do something similar. Among other things toy soldier related, I'll be tracking the progress of my new Kings of War army - Trident Realms. I managed to pick up a couple of bargains on eBay so have a Mega Force and Army along with 6 Wyrm riders and a booster Water Elementals trio on the way. Some quick fag packet maths means I can get a 2k pts army out of it and the plan is to get it all done this calendar year. I'll be aiming for a 100% Mantic and where possible multi based army. I've really liked the speed of set up and diorama style bases I made for my Abyssals so it makes sense to go all out for the new bunch. As there's not
